Funeral Mass
Parking for school pick up tomorrow may be more limited. There is a funeral Mass at St. Lambert Parish at 2:00 tomorrow. The parish is going to try to have those attending the funeral park on the west side of the building (on Bahnson Ave.).
Also, just as an awareness, whenever there are funeral Mass lunches at the parish, our lunch menu may be changed and students eat in the classrooms. There is only one lunch option and no salad bar on these days. We consider this small sacrifice our corporal work of mercy to help bury the dead.
Walk-a-thon
Our 2nd money turn-in day is tomorrow. Please send packets and donations to the school tomorrow morning. We will return the envelopes to students at the end of the day.
We are still in need of a few volunteers for the Beginning Bash after the WAT. If you would like to volunteer to do face painting or clean up, please sign up here. Volunteer Sign Up

A Note from the Art Teacher
Hello! My name is Josie Johnson. I was a substitute/EA at Holy Spirit a lot last year. This year I was blessed with the art teaching job which is what I gained a degree in! My class process starts with motivation for the project where we dive into the time period, the culture surrounding the subject, and the relevance of the project to our lives. Next, we go through an ideation phase where the students brainstorm different ideas and compositions for their project. This allows them to make mistakes and challenge themselves to dig deeper for new ideas. Finally, we begin our final project. In this stage, I like to give students a lot of freedom. I don’t think every kid’s art should look exactly the same. Kids at this age hold endless amounts of creativity and when they are given freedom to show it, they truly impress themselves.
So far in each grade we have worked on:
Kindergarten- Writing our name in Egyptian hieroglyphics, drawing and painting ladybugs and butterflies.
1st grade- Learning Native American Tipi symbols and making a tipi out of paper bags, tracing and cutting out hands to create a pop art style.
2nd- Learning traditional Indian henna styles, creating abstract art using shapes and oil pastels
3rd- Learning about Dia de los Muertos and creating decorative skulls and tissue paper flowers, creating art deco designs with metallic paint and folding methods.
4th- Learning about Aboriginal Australia and using dots to paint dream scenes, practicing drawing eyes, mouths, and noses to be used in a self-portrait, fauvism style.
5th- Using watercolor to paint landscapes from Italy, studying different fonts to learn about the history of graffiti and write our names in our own graffiti style.
6th- Learning and executing traditional Japanese printmaking techniques, researching the art of collage and creating our own collages from recycled magazines.
If you have any questions about our art classroom, what your students are working on, or why, please feel free to email me at jjohnson@ogknights.org. I look forward to getting to know each one of your students, and helping them broaden their creative horizons.

Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools is a beautiful community of faith, filled with individuals striving to grow in holiness. As we approach the new year, our teachers and support staff will spend the first working day of 2022 in a spiritual retreat.
We ask you to offer prayers for our teachers and support staff to be filled with the Love of God. A beautiful prayer you may wish to offer:
Heavenly Father, as children of your family, we ask you to bless the efforts of our children’s teachers and support staff today. Daily they plant the seeds of knowledge for a yet unknown harvest.
Father, we ask you to give them the patience of Job, the wisdom of Solomon, Mary’s gentle heart, and the conviction of Daniel.
Guide and direct them as they work to reach each child at his or her own level, and inspire them with the Holy Spirit to fill the hearts and minds of our children with an everlasting awe for your creation.
We ask this through Christ our Lord, AMEN
We are grateful to partner with you in the education of your child(ren) and invoke the blessings of God upon you and your family.
In HIS Love,
Bishop O’Gorman Catholic Schools

Attendance
Regular attendance is so important to a child's education. Studies show academic success is tied to regular attendance and lifetime habits are built through being on time for school. As a system, principals will be sending attendance letters to parents for both absences and tardies at the 5th, 9th, and 12th times starting this semester. We recognize there are times when a child is sick or needs to be out of school, however, letters will still be sent regardless of the absence. If you receive a letter and have questions, feel free to contact Ms. Davis.
Technology Raffle - Kick-off Jan. 14th
Our raffle to raise money for technology hardware in the school will kick off on Jan. 14th. The goal is to raise at least $15,000. We don't receive budget money for technology so this is an important raffle. 100% of the money from raffle tickets sold stays in our school. This benefits all students because every classroom from preschool - 6th grade uses technology in our school. Information will be sent home with students on Jan. 14th.

Holy Hoops - March 22
Back in the early 2000’s, Holy Hoops was an annual tradition that many people might remember. We are excited to announce that after a long break…. it’s back!
Holy Hoops is a community building event involving a friendly basketball game between area priests and O’Gorman seniors. The event includes lots of family fun activities to make this a great event to raise money for seminary education and tuition assistance.
General admission is a free will donation. The concession stand opens at 5:30 PM in the OGHS cafeteria featuring pizza, hot dogs, and nachos. There will be a 50/50 raffle, halftime entertainment and hoop shoot, and performances by the Chamber Choir and Pep Band.
We hope to see you at the game to help raise money for two great causes!

SFO Advisory Board
The SFO board is going to look a bit different in our school system next year. Elementary SFO Boards are going to be structured closer to what the Advisory Boards OGJH and OGHS have. Parents on the SFO Board will meet with the principal quarterly to help set the SFO budget and to help plan/organize school-community events and fundraisers just as we have in the past. However, we won’t have the three large group (all-parent/teachers) SFO meeting nights, which seems to be the biggest change.
Click here to read the Bishop O'Gorman School Board approved SFO Charter.
The hope is to get one parent from each grade to be on the SFO Advisory Board. Board meeting dates will be announced to all parents and staff, and all are welcome to attend the quarterly meetings.
If you are interested in being on the SFO Advisory Board next school year, please let me know. Otherwise, I will be contacting parents in the hopes of finding at least one parent per grade to be on the board.
Enrollment
A few parents have asked what enrollment is looking like for next year. We are growing! This year we have 176 students. As of now, for next year we have 184 students enrolled with 4 others pending.
If you know of anyone who might be interested in St. Lambert for their child, please encourage them to call the school for a tour, especially if they have a preschool child as those classes are almost full.
Uniform Plaid Skirts/Jumpers
This is the last year of wearing our old plaid skirt/jumpers color. Next year we will be totally transitioned to the new plaid worn in the Bishop O'Gorman system.
Skirts/Jumpers can be purchased on the Dennis Uniform site. Once on the site, search for Bishop O'Gorman Catholic Schools and it will bring you to our uniform page.
The plain navy skirts are still able to be worn and can be purchased through any vendor or the Dennis Uniform Company.
One of the Holy Spirit staff members is helping a school in Africa get started. She will send over the old plaid uniforms that families no longer want. If you would like to donate the older plaid skirts/jumpers for that school, please drop them off at our school office by May 16 or directly to the Holy Spirit school office after that date.

Dear Parents,
Thank you so much for entrusting your children with us this school year. The teachers and staff have cherished the time with them and have enjoyed watching them grow academically, socially and spiritually. As the principal, I feel very blessed to be a part of the educational journey of so many young people and witness their growth.
For our 6th graders moving on to junior high and our families that won't be with us next year, we will miss you and pray for God's protection upon you as you embark on the new venture.
My prayers are with all of our families for a safe and wonderful summer.
A Friend in Christ,
Colleen Davis
End of the School Year Prayer
O God of all beginnings and endings, we praise and thank you for the gift of this school year.
It has been a time filled with grace and blessings, with challenges and opportunities, joys and sorrows.
The days have passed quickly, O Lord. The weeks, the months, the seasons, the holidays and holy days, the exams, vacations, breaks, and assemblies all have come forth from your hand.
While we trust that your purposes have always been at work each day, sometimes it has seemed difficult to understand and appreciate just what you have been up to in our school.
Give us the rest and refreshment we need this summer. Let our efforts of this past year bear fruit. Bring all of our plans to a joyful conclusion and bless us, according to your will.
With the fulfillment of our summer hopes and dreams watch over us in the weeks of rest ahead,
and guide each day as you have done this past year. Help us return to school with a new spirit and a new energy.
May we continue to grow in age, wisdom, knowledge and grace all the days of our lives. Amen.
